The Scherzinger Family’s Enduring Legacy
Kurt and Eric Scherzinger
For more than 25 years, the Scherzinger family has played a vital role in supporting Cincinnati’s park system through a powerful combination of philanthropy, volunteerism, and long-term vision. Their contributions reflect not only a commitment to preserving green spaces, but also a belief in the importance of education, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.
Through their leadership at Scherzinger Pest Control and their ongoing partnership with Cincinnati Parks, brothers Kurt and Eric Scherzinger have carried forward a multigenerational legacy rooted in service. Their work has helped shape meaningful experiences for visitors across the city while strengthening the connection between people and nature.
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
The Scherzinger family’s relationship with Cincinnati Parks has grown steadily over the years, evolving from initial support into a deeply embedded partnership. Their involvement reflects a shared mission to preserve and enhance public green spaces for future generations.
What began as a general commitment to supporting Cincinnati Parks gradually developed into something more focused and enduring.
Kurt reflects on how that journey unfolded:
“My dad initially partnered with Cincinnati Parks. Our business has deep roots here, spanning 90 years, and supporting the community has always been a core value for us. Originally, our involvement was with the parks in general. The idea naturally grew into sponsoring the Butterfly Show, which has now become a tradition. I still vividly remember the early shows held outside, in a small butterfly garden beside Krohn Conservatory. We even have photos on a petrified piece of wood from those early days when I was a kid.”
This evolution from a broad partnership into a signature program like the Butterfly Show reflects the family’s long-term vision and deepening connection to Cincinnati’s parks.

“We support the parks and sponsor the Butterfly Show because we want to give back to the community that has supported us. It’s our way of promoting environmental awareness and preserving our park system, an immense asset in an urban city like Cincinnati.”

Transforming Experiences at Krohn Conservatory
One of the most visible and celebrated aspects of the Scherzinger family’s impact is their long-standing sponsorship of the Butterfly Show at Krohn Conservatory.
Each year, the exhibit draws thousands of visitors who experience the beauty and wonder of live butterflies in an immersive, educational setting. For many families, the Butterfly Show has become a cherished tradition, offering both inspiration and insight into the delicate balance of nature.
The Scherzinger family’s support has helped sustain and grow this event, ensuring that it remains accessible and engaging for the community. Their involvement goes beyond sponsorship. Family members and employees actively volunteer their time, helping with setup, planting, and visitor engagement.
This hands-on approach reflects a deeper commitment to the mission behind the event.
Creating a Lasting Impact at Eden Park
In addition to their support of the Butterfly Show, the family established the Scherzinger Butterfly Garden at Eden Park. This space serves as both a beautiful landscape feature and a living classroom, designed to highlight the importance of pollinators and native plant species.
The garden stands as a lasting symbol of the family’s dedication to conservation and education. Visitors are able to see firsthand how thoughtful planting and care can create habitats that support butterflies and other beneficial insects.
Through this initiative, the Scherzinger family has helped extend the impact of their work beyond seasonal programming, creating a permanent resource that continues to educate and inspire year-round.
A Culture of Service
What sets the Scherzinger family apart is not just their financial support, but their commitment to active participation. Employees, family members, and leadership alike come together to volunteer within the parks, reinforcing a culture of service that extends throughout their organization.
This collective effort strengthens the connection between their business and the community, demonstrating that meaningful impact comes from both giving and doing.
Their work aligns closely with the mission of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, which seeks to enhance and sustain Cincinnati’s park system through partnerships, philanthropy, and community engagement.
Investing in the Future
Today, the Scherzinger family’s commitment continues to grow. Through ongoing involvement with Cincinnati Parks and leadership within the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, they are helping to ensure that their impact will extend well into the future. Kurt is now serving on the Board of Directors for the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, deepening his connection to the Parks community.
They are also focused on engaging the next generation, creating opportunities for younger family members and employees to become involved in service and environmental stewardship. Both Kurt and Eric Scherzinger believe that the work started by their father in support of Cincinnati Parks will be carried through to their own children and grandchildren. This forward-looking approach reflects a belief that lasting change comes from sustained effort and shared responsibility.

The story of the Scherzinger family is one of dedication, vision, and a deep respect for the natural world. Through decades of support, they have helped shape experiences that connect people to nature, educate communities, and strengthen Cincinnati’s park system.
Their legacy can be seen in the vibrant butterflies that fill the conservatory each year, in the gardens that support pollinators, and in the countless visitors who leave these spaces with a greater appreciation for the environment.
At its core, their work reflects a simple but powerful idea. When individuals and families invest in their community, they create ripple effects that extend far beyond a single moment or place.
